I'm looking into getting a new car, any opinions on an Audi?

I'm planning on buying a car within the next 6 months. I really like Audis a lot but I've heard good and bad things about them. I like the A4, but if they're too much of a hassle I'll look at something else.I'm looking into getting a new car, any opinions on an Audi?I'm assuming you like the Audis because of their looks, performance, interiors, etc. Yes, they are quite excellent in these aspects (especially the interiors, which are really attractive).

As far as reliability, maintenance, service - there's good and bad news. The A4 in recent years has become a more relia ble model, probably more so than the A6, its bigger brother. I think Consumer Reports has rated them to be at least average or better than average - which is based on ownership surveys. Are you buying new or used? If you can get new, or at least a certified pre-owned, you will have some things covered.

Whatever model you get, in any case, you will really need to pay strict attention to maintenance schedules. Audis aren't cars that you can just forget about in terms of regular maintenance - they are German luxury/performance cars. They are not cheap to maintain or fix. You can save quite a bit on service costs if you go to an independent garage as opposed to a dealer service center, but it will never be like getting a Honda or Ford serviced in terms of cost.

I would suggest you get in contact with local Audi clubs who can advise you about their experiences with ownership and where to find good service facilities. Good luck!I'm looking into getting a new car, any opinions on an Audi?
They are beautiful cars but they can cost a fortune to fix. My son's is in the shop right now and we're looking at a $4,000 bill to fix it. You may want to do a little comparison shopping. Try Edmunds.comI'm looking into getting a new car, any opinions on an Audi?I wouldn't get an Audi, I've seen so many of these cars break down ( I'm talking new cars) then everything just seems to start breaking. Those cars just seem to fall apart. A Volvo or Benz is a more reliable choice but you get the car that you want ok.
you ve got a good taste, they are good , should say very good cars , had A3 1.8 turbo , A 4 2.5 turbo ,and just got A 6 3liter turbo diesel its so comfortable and powerful if you dont know its a diesel , you wont guess, hope i will be able to afford an A8 in a couple of years ,its like any other car, they

need to be look after , services/maintenance .

ClaudeI'm looking into getting a new car, any opinions on an Audi?hear is the deal on Audi's they are more reliable than BMW and MB and anyone who says they aren't is not keeping up in the auto market (Mercedes reliability has declined steadily form the mid 90's), they have been making some of the most reliable German sedans since about 2000 so if you are looking for something 2000 or newer they are a good car but you have to do the required maintenance they are not only expensive to buy but expensive to own you have to use specific synthetic oil of an approved grade and its not cheep they only fall apart when owners ignore scheduled maintenance and wait for things to go wrong. if you go to the shop and have a $4000 bill you have most likely bought a car that was not cared for. secound a $4000 bill at the dealer usually translated to about 1800 at an independent Audi specialist. im not saying they have Honda or Toyota reliability and there not supposed to, tolerances are smaller and therefore wear parts do not last as long and must be replaced but this is the trade off for performance. they are a great car for a driver but can be expensive for someone who just wants basic transportation. if you want basic transportation with reliability and all the gadgets then look at Lexus but if you want driving dynamics and build quality Audi and BMW are at the op of the market.I'm looking into getting a new car, any opinions on an Audi?
Do you live with an Audi mechanic? (Acura or Lexus)
Don't waste your money on it those cars have such a bad rep quality wise and they also loose their value fast.If your looking for a nice all wheel drive luxury car try the infinity G35X its all wheel drive and it looks and handles nice.It also comes with Nissan 3.5VQ engine which has been one of the top ten engines in the world for 13 years straight on wards list.Other wise I'd say check out a Lexus they aren't bad either.Well hope this helpsI'm looking into getting a new car, any opinions on an Audi?
its plain and simple. You will never ever get the quality of an audi for such a good price. no acura or cadillac or any american or japanese car will give you such wonderful craftsmanship and quality and safety like an audi will. and lets face it. people think BMW drivers are A$$holes, mercedes is losing quality and raising prices and audi has just been steady and great with all of thier models. they invented one of the best allwheel drive systems in the world and now they own lamborghini! if your looking for a lambo that seats your entire family you can buy an audi S6 that has the exact V10 thats in the Gallardo in it. if you want somthing right. than you want an audi. look up audi in the dictionary and the definition is perfection.

by the way in regards to some above posts. I recently got my oil changed and it only cost me 5 dollars and 80 cents. also with the audi care plan you and your car are protected. not to long ago i got a flat tire. i called up the service dept. the came and picked the car up for me. left me a loaner car which was also an audi. not a piece of crap like mercedes wil give u. and they gave me an new rim and tire for under 200 dollars. the dropped the car back off and took the loaner with them for free. best service ive seen in a while. you do the math. good luck
My partner has an 1998 Audi A4 Quattro V6. He got it used. There are a few things to consider about the Audi. Scheduled maintenance is very important as with any car. You have to keep in mind that these cars have timing belts and if you plan to keep the car past its' scheduled timing belt change, you're looking at a $2,000 change at the dealership but only about $1,000 at an independent shop.

When it comes to tensioners, like the pulley for the drive belt and the timing belt, these are what usually fail on the Audi's so make sure you get the tensioner puley changed along with the timing belt. That adds another $600 at the dealer and $350 at an independent shop.

The Audi has quirks but the transmission and engine are solid along with alot of the steering/braking components. Even after 160,000 miles, the brakes and steering wheel are still stiff, which is something you might or might not like about the Audi's.

The transmission does do some hard shifting in the winter, but it's only because engine warm up is of the utmost importance and is natural to have some hard shifting during and momentarily after warming up. Audi's are designed this way and shouldn't scare you.
I am a car designer and do not work for Audi or any of their companies (Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, VW, Seat or Skoda) By far the tightest build tolerances, MB %26amp; BMW can not keep up, the rest ar far behind, Lexus is clossing the gap though.

Great cars, have bought 2 (S4 %26amp; A6)and I have a new one in order (S5) In my profession I have studied and taken appart many vehicles and can say that after the year 2000 Audi keeps setting the new standards.

You do need to be an expert to see the difference; you can find many answers by looking at the parts that most car companies do not like to show: Open the doors and look at the shutfaces, door seals, hinges, latches, etc. and compare other vehicles, you will see ugly exposed screws on other german cars, sheet metal wrinckles in the japanese, add these plus deffective paint and huge gaps in the american cars. You can take it a step further and measure gaps with a set of calipers and you will see who has the smallest gaps, the smoothest paints, the best sheet metal stampings, etc.

If you can; get a new car; you never know how a used car was taken care of unless you know it good enough.

There is a brand new A4 for 2009, wider, longer and way better than its competitors, check it out at audiworld.com

Good luck!
they r german cars, so they won't break down much, amazing looking and pretty fast, and the interior is one of the bestoutof all carmakes.
The A4 is a good car. The fact knowing that it is a VW in an Audi badge really turned me off from it. It handled relatively well, but it did not pack that punch I was looking for. That's when I put my eye on the Bimmer. I went to the dealer to see if the critics were right about how this car is so amazing, and I walked out with one. For about $3000 more than an A4, I got a navigation, AWD, HD radio, Sirius Satellite radio, Sport Package, and Premium Package. I am a big highway driver and I have an '06 with 45,000 miles on in. I enjoy driving it every minute I'm in it. Reliability wise, the car has been to the shop 5 times through the 45,000 miles, 1) 12,000 mile checkup- nothing was wrong, just needed new oil, and windshield wiper blades( both covered by warranty) 2) Nail in the tire (tire warranty replaced the $230 tire for free) 3) 24,000 mile checkup (oil and brake pads- on warranty yet again), 4) 32000 mile checkup, (nothing wrong, got new tires and oil, they washed my car and even waxed it- warranty) 5) 44,000 mile checkup (absolutely nothing was wrong- no warranty needed!) As you can see i am elaborating on the warranty, beats Toyota, Honda and all GM products! Pretty much what I am saying is ----- Go for the Bimmer, you won't regret it.
audis are great cars but if you dont like them the other options bmw and mercedies.the bmw m3 or the three series are great options.if you want car just like that but lower price check the mazda 3 series.
Without getting into a war of words about whether Audis are good buys or bad, let me say this: if you are buying, buy/lease new from the dealer or used with a Certified Pre-Owned program, which has extended warranty.

Otherwise, don't bother with any German car, as they are very expensive to maintain.
A4s are usually just like any other car. i hear that they're unreliable sometimes. but most people love their audis, i wouldn't turn away from buying one because some people have said it's a lot of maintenance. most people that i know don't have any complaints about their audis. well i actually only directly know like 1 person haha. but family friends and stuff i guess have them. A6's and A8's are REALLY nice. TT'S look cute if you're young...well actually they look good with most people.

and i love the name.

ow-deeee.
Get it new and get l00,000 mile warranty bumper to bumper.

The maintenance is expensive also.
