Why do Audi cars have a speed limiter in them?

i recently checked and all the cars are electronically limited to 130mph. why is this? and are any other cars like this too?Why do Audi cars have a speed limiter in them?So you don't drive too fast?

audi limits their cars because they know there are people out there that will put crappy 80mph tires on a car (some models) that is capable of going well over 150mph, and will end up with egg on their face again ala the "unintended acceleration" debacle. The first generation audi tt also had an aerodynamic issue which caused them to get airborn at about 130mph, later solved with the simple addition of a small trunk mounted spoiler.



pssst, the speed limiter on the early models is purely mechanical and can be easily defeated while the newer models can be easily reprogrammed using the obdII port.



trivia: when buick launched the grand national it was the fastest production car in that year (I'm pretty sure) but was speed limited to 110mph for two reasons. It had the aero dynamics of a brick and it came with crappy tires.

The majority of Audi's come with H-rated tires (max speed rating of 130mph / 210kph) as the standard package, so Audi chooses to limit the speed of their cars to that standard.

Most modern cars have REV limiters to prevent engine damage. Not speed limiters.
