In certain vehicles, the scan tool must be used to run the ABS pump in order to clear all of the air out of the system. It depends which ABS unit is on the vehicle. The B6 S4 only came with Bosch 5.7 and Bosch 8.0. Neither of these units need to be ran while bleeding. I would recommend using a pressure bleeder if possible.
The bleed sequence is as follows:
1 - Left front brake caliper
2 - Right front brake caliper
3 - Left rear brake caliper
4 - Right rear brake caliper
