The only way I have ever fixed them is to replace them.... and I have tried to clean them and have had them cleaned. Is it possible to clean an EGR valve for a 98 audi a6 quattro and if so what is the best way to do it?Yea you can clean the EGR valve, but unless you really know what your doing, it gets really complicated and its a huge pain...Youll need to remove and disconnect a LOT of things, so if you actually decide to clean it, please be careful!
Before you go through that whole process, I would make sure that cleaning the EGR would even solve the problem...it could be a handful of other things
Here is an article that I pulled, you will want to verify this model before you start ripping parts out
