How much gas mileage does the Audi A6 TDI get?

Is it true that is gets 60 miles per gallon? I always thought the Prius was the most fuel efficient car in America, but if this gets 60 then it is....is it true? How much gas mileage does the Audi A6 TDI get?Depends how you drive it. I doubt it'll do 60mpg on a regular basis unless your entire life is spent in top gear at 60mph, but then neither will a Toyota Pious either.

You should get 40mpg from it in regular driving though. How much gas mileage does the Audi A6 TDI get?
Well JerryJ's account and experience of VW TDI PD engines is absolutely and completely non-typical. These engines are superb in every way and a great deal more reliable than common-rail diesel engines of the same (and even current) generation.

I drive a VW Passat 1.9 TDI 130 and it will return 60mpg easily at a steady 70 on the motorway. If you drive faster or accelerate harder then that average drops, as it would in any car.

The A6 is a bigger and heavier car than the Passat so it's unlikely that it will in every day driving return 60mpg, and it also depends which varient of the TDI you have, 1.9, 2.0, PD or common-rail. They all have different power outputs and therefore fuel efficiencies.

They are, or more accurately, can be, very economical and remarkably reliable. My previous Passat TDI covered 160,000 miles without anything major causing trouble. My current one is at 82,000 and still going perfectly. Our old company fleet Passat covered 206,000 trouble free miles.

Regular servicing is key to economy and longevity. How much gas mileage does the Audi A6 TDI get?Below is what I've actually received from my 2004 Prius. Note that diesel fuel is between 10% and 20% more expensive then the regular gas that the Prius uses. (The difference varies by season, diesel is higher in the winter when it competes with heating oil.) So you have to subtract the difference to get a comparable mpg. So 60 diesel mpg equals between 48 and 54 Prius mpg.

I had a VW TDI. The engine blew at 80,000 miles. It cost 22 cents per mile for dealer maintenance (not including the blown engine) over the 95,000 miles I drove it. This compares with 12 cents per mile for the Prius for dealer maintenance, tires, and fuel combined over the 120,000 trouble-free miles I've driven it so far.

I found with the diesel that every fill is a smelly mess and you can't park it in the garage because when you start it up it drives everyone out, so you have to keep it outside. I also found that the VW TDI had no power when accelerating from highway speeds, while the Prius has plenty (this may not be true for the Audi). The VW TDI was the most disappointing car I've ever driven.

2004 Prius MPG from the logbook. (Complete years only):

2003-2004 -- 50.8 mpg 17,628 miles

2005 -- 52.6 mpg 14,688 miles

2006 -- 56.3 mpg 16174 miles

2007 -- 57.3 mpg 18384 miles

2008 -- 59.9 mpg 21755 miles

2009 -- 61.4 mpg 16177 miles

2010 -- 65.2 mpg 12134 milesHow much gas mileage does the Audi A6 TDI get?
You do not state which engine you have in your A6, there is more than one diesel engine fitted in that range of car. If its the 1.9 or 2.0 TDI you should be able to get 44 mpg. 60 mpg is a ridiculous claim and not possible except for a top gear cruise at 50 or 55 mph. Forget the trip indicator the only way to check is brim to brim fills and then divide the mileage into the amount of fuel used. The Prius lives a lie. Quite simply, what about the money to charge the car up ? The TDI cars if you have never driven one all have massive torque, I had a European SEAT Ibiza FR TDI 130 bhp and that car will out accelerate a 2.5 Porsche Boxster in 4th gear between 40 and 60 mph, that is a fact not a pipe dream. That car returned 47 mpg. I later had it re-mapped to 163 bhp and the consumption went up and it returned about 43.5 mpg. There was a story quite recently about an economy run in a VW Passat 2.0 TDI blue motion which was driven from somewhere in the UK to Paris France and back on a tank of fuel. I believe it did something like 768 miles which equated to about 71 mpg. These figures never reflect actual driving as I am quite sure they will have freewheeled down hills etc, probably drove at night when nothing was on the road and they could maintain 6 th gear. The USA is just wakening up to the diesel engined car and it will go the same way as Europe has and diesel will eventually be king. How much gas mileage does the Audi A6 TDI get?It gets zero gas miles as it has a diesel engine
