Why is did the service light go on my'06 Audi A4 despite 5k miles left to service?

The service light just went on my 2006 Audi A4 at 30k miles. The dealer says the next service is at 35k - so that makes me wonder, why is the light on? Can this be due to tampering with the miles on the car or is this a common thing that it "misses" 5k miles?!Why is did the service light go on my'06 Audi A4 despite 5k miles left to service? This might sound crazy, but your little A4 is pretty intelligent... The CPU (computer) unit is able to adjust it's settings and augment service notices based on the drivers style/conditions. If you are a more aggressive driver the vehicle will request an earlier checkup to avoid fluid breakdown, contaminated oil, clogged filters, sensor failure, etc.. Actually, in the owners manual under maintenance it should give service intervals with a "~" after it, meaning "give or take" (or approximately). This is because every driver/condition is different and the computer adjusts it's self accordingly. So ideally, service is every 10,000miles, but most people end up getting it done every 9,000miles because that's what their computer indicates based on how they drive...

Hope that helps...
